Red Lion (Hotel)

The Red Lion, is situated in the heart of Histon, and is a five minute walk from my daughter husband and grand children. So this review is five stars for location, location, location.Its rooms are however also modern, spacious and well-serviced by friendly local staff. The pub is warm and welcoming. We haven’t tried the cuisine since we spend most of our visit with the family. But I especially like the atmosphere there and look forward to eating on our next visit. I recommend the Red Lion, its accommodation, ambience and staff unreservedly.

Preface: I can't really review the hotel, as we were staying around the corner whilst on a job. As a pub though, this place was an excellent cozy spot that left such a glowing impression from it's food, it's atmosphere and it's wide selection of drinks we ended up coming three nights in a row (a personal first). The Sunday roast was top notch: I had the pork belly and it was generous, succulent and had all the trimmings. Chips were really good as were the desserts. All rich, unctuous, cozy and served with custard - a proper pub dinner. It's the special sort of village public house where one feels instantly at home and could happily while away the entire afternoon relaxing, having great chats and sampling all the drinks til closing time if you have come in from the cold and have nowhere else to be. The building itself is in two halves with the bar connecting them. One smaller, cozier side with a fire and the other wider and a bit more accommodating for larger groups (although you can find a cozy corner in either.) It was purely by chance that we found it near where we were posted up in Histon, but if I ever have cause to come back to Cambridge I will be paying it a visit again no doubt.

Had pub lunch on a Saturday. They were super accommodating and friendly. There are two rooms - one that is far more snug than the other, with a ceiling covered in beer mats. Dog friendly. The food was really good (v nice curried fishcake with a poached egg, and an awesome venison stew with horseradish dumplings, oh boy) and they had an unusually large selection of proper draught ales. Well done team, don't change anything!

Stayed here for my first time ever solo traveling. The staff were very accommodating and kind. My room was super clean and well kept, as was the pub. Service was excellent and the food was so good. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel so I could easily get around. I will be coming back and staying here again.

Room was well sized, immaculate and well positioned in Histon. Delicious Indian across the road and visited the pub/ restaurant 1 minute away. Netflix didn't work so TV a bit limited. A really warm welcome on arrival.

We had a fantastic stay at The Red Lion in Histon! The rooms were spotless, spacious, and genuinely felt like a home away from home. The team were so friendly and welcoming, and having a great pub and eatery right on site made everything even better. Loved the convenience of the electric charging too. That secret welcome box… what a kind and unexpected surprise! Highly recommend a true 5-star experience.

Nice pub with rooms, in a separate block. The room we had, had all the amenities you need and quite spacious. The only thing I could fault, is that although clean enough the room could have done with a deep clean. With regards to the pub, the food and drinks we had were good and the manager was very friendly and made an effort to have a chat with us very welcoming.

Great service. Late arriving but just about still serving. Pie of the week was Chicken and Mushroom which made my decision easy. Julia had the salmon which was done really well. Waitress went the extra mile to ensure allergies were 100% considered. Julia shared some of her fennel which was the best fennel we'd ever had. Great find with a HUGE selection of ales. Thank you
